Pharmacists are often the first stop in treating acne
Some recent studies have shown that pharmacists are often the first point of contact when acne sufferers are searching for a cure for their acne in order to treat themselves naturally, with self-medication.
Thus pharmacist not only needs to advise patients that the ideal first step in treating acne is proper diagnosis and therapy which should be prescribed by a dermatologist, but also needs to know a bit about acne, and to be able to offer basic rules regarding skin care, diet, and exercise. If the acne is severe, the pharmacist is advised to immediately direct them to a dermatologist, however for mild cases, he needs to be able to offer a correct ‘first aid’ in the form of tips and recommendations, such as:
- washing the acne affected areas at least twice a day with medicated and soapless cleansers as well as drying agents and shampoos
- advise various creams or lotions that help dry the outer layers of skin causing them to peel slightly, because the peeling action caused by these agents promotes the healing process by helping to loosen and expel plugs of white-heads and blackheads
- to advise the acne sufferer about the importance of diet. Even though diet is not a directly confirmed cause of acne, a healthy change in diet definitely helps with getting rid of this problem. Some thing that the pharmacists can mention to the acne sufferer: to avoid excessively greasy foods, to stay physically fit, to avoid stress, drink plenty of water, and to add to some natural bulk to the diet to avoid constipation
These are all safe tips that a pharmacist should know and give when a person contacts them and asks them on what to do to help cure their acne, if possible naturally.
Of course, based on the skin appearance, the pharmacist can deduce whether the acne is severe enough to warrant advising the person to a skin care specialist, who will be able to treat this problem with antibiotics and through more specialized means, when an attempt at natural treatment is not enough.

As a pharmacist that is also an acne sufferer, i try to learn as much as i can about acne and how to effectively prevent and treat it. Thanks for your article. Keep it up.
