Acne and self-esteem
I’ve read a while ago a forum post on acne, which was quite inspiring. Basically it said (small snippet below):
“Now I understand that it is not cancer or hiv, it is just acne. in this world there are more serious problems to solve….just don’t stress to much about, don’t think about it, and u will see how it is gonna get better with the time.”It is a fact that acne can be quite debilitating for many, and can make peopleĀ have real low self-esteem. It’s because acne is mostly occurring on the face, and the face is part of one’s image, it’s the first thing one sees when meeting a person. This is particularly true when one started having acne during their teens.
Peer pressure is very strong, and if you look at any ads, tv commercials, magazines, movies, pretty much everything around you is strongly focused on ideals of physical perfection.
That’s why it is so important to have a positive attitude, to see through the peer pressure, and just be yourself, without getting a low self-esteem. Basically you need to change the lens you see yourself through and the world around you.
Also if you find that acne really intervenes with your life, seek out a support group or relevant forum that you can join. People there will be understanding to your concerns, and can help you go through your problems much easier, without making you feel that you’re alone with your problem.
Finally, try to keep in mind that everyone has various things they are sensitive and not comfortable about and are often as self-conscious about them as you might be about your acne outburst. Nobody is perfect, not even those tv ads and magazine models. And they also will have self-esteem issues related to their own problems.
Being confident and not letting your acne dictate who you are allows people to see the real you and not focus on your acne. And once you see through it, others will see through it as well.
